...I dont understand

I feel like the game could be great if it was even a LITTLE bit story driven. It just put me in a Huge, impressive world, with no guide on what to do. I wondered around for a few minutes and didnt find any animals (I assume there are some) but it doesnt give you much to do. Maybe some character customization...VILLAGES or other NPCs would be cool. Gear and stuff. Idk.
